I graduated, so now what?

An often overlooked stage of life is the transition after graduating college and entering the workforce. Newly graduated young professionals face a host of unique challenges and struggles. Graduating college and starting your first job is a huge life event that doesn’t get enough attention. Perhaps people around you are too narrowly focused on the excitement of this monumental accomplishment to recognize the potential impact it can have and the pressures you might feel by being in control of your trajectory in life.

Before this point, there had always been a next semester that would provide a sense of security and structure. The structured educational system provided a clear path, which is not the case when working a 9-5 job. Instead, you’re now expected to work 40+ hours per week with no clear next step. On top of that, you might be experiencing significant doubts about your knowledge and skills or dealing with crushing imposter syndrome. These doubts and lack of clarity can be daunting and overwhelming once the novelty of leaving textbooks and exams behind wears off.

On top of all of this, many might be working jobs in cities near their friends and supports, while others might have taken a leap and accepted a job in a new area where they don’t know anybody. If this experience resonates with you, connecting with a therapist who understands this unique and pivotal stage of life can be an immensely important resource. Please don’t hesitate to reach out and connect to learn more about how working together could ease your worries and help you feel more confident navigating this stage of life.
